Claire Fielding on Troublesome II
Alyson Parker on Moloko
Caroline Jenks on Just Joking II
Julie Horton on Royle Walsh
Claire and I rode in the morning after a head on battle with the M25 and both horses jumped beautifully. The SJ was quite straight forward but the XC phase caused many problems with related distance skinnies and a triple brush to a hedge off a difficult turn followed by the last fence which was a zebra patterned wavy show jump which caught out Mo at the end of an otherwise foot perfect round. Claire’s Troublesome (April) was unlucky to have a pole in the show jumping but showed maturity in the XC for a clear in less than a second inside the optimum time. In the afternoon, Caroline Jenks rode Just Joking for super clear almost on the optimum time followed by Julie Horton with Royle Walsh (Billy) who was also clear in a perfectly timed round.
Out of 46 teams Stansted were in with a shout even on 4 faults because we were so near to the time and ended up in 6th place. We would have won with one more clear in our team. Bourne Valley won the event and Ingatestone and Blackmore were 2nd with a zero score so we were pleased for them. We tacked up the horses again for the mounted prizegiving and we were delighted to learn that Julie had won the style prize!! After the Duke of Marlborough had presented us with our rosettes and prizes at the end, Julie went forward to receive her huge shield and lovely Thermotex rug for being the most stylish out of all those riders! As a team we all get on really well and had a lovely day wandering round the tradestands. Our competition was sponsored by Dodsen & Horrell and they generously gave us goody bags each including horse treats, pens, notepads etc and a voucher towards D&H feed.
Huge thanks to Rachel Kellett and to Sally Hearn who came along to help.
